UNESWA PROTEST:Students President Colani Maseko abducted by Mswati’s heavily armed soldiers.

KWALUSENI: Colani Maseko, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) has been abducted by King Mswati’s soldiers who were deployed at the institution of higher learning on Tuesday morning.

The Students Union President who is critical of King Mswati sent a message to this journalist confirming that he was surrounded by soldiers,however, he was not reachable when this publication tried to get more details on the situation.

“I’m being escorted by soldiers”, reads a message sent by the Students President to this journalist.

It has been disclosed that Maseko was forced into an army truck that was parked next to the UNESWA entrance.

Lieutenant Tengetile Khumalo, the Umbutfo Eswatini Defense Force(UEDF) Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Reached for comments, Wakhile Lukhele, the Secretary of the Swaziland National Union of Students confirmed the abduction of the their President.

“The soldiers abducted him here at Kwaluseni University, beat him and forced him to roll on ground. He was then forced into an army truck that took the Ludzeludze direction, we are trying to get a car and follow the army truck”, said the Students Union Secretary General.

University students engaged in a protest on Monday evening demanding their allowances, however, Mswati responded by deploying the police and soldiers.

Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis,dozens have been killed allegedly by Mswati since the unrest started in June 2021.
