MANZINI:Former Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF)Swaziland (EFFSWA)leader Ngilozi Fakudze was on Tuesday arrested by the police on alleged traffic charges.
The EFF leader who served as a Chairperson for Mdumezulu branch was part of a public transport protest against police brutality.
Nombulelo Motsa, the President of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Swaziland (EFFSWA) said the former leader was arrested for allegedly skipping a stop sign on his way to the protest march organized by public transport operators and would appear before the Manzini Magistrate court on Wednesday.
“He was arrested while going to the march in full regalia,He was threatened and will be kept overnight.They fabricated a traffic offence alleging that he skipped a stop sign.The police were trying to instill fear on comrades during today's march in every possible way",she said.
Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, the eSwatini Police Spokesperson had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
On Tuesday, the Swaziland Transport Communication and Allied Workers Union (SWATCAWU) marched to the Manzini Regional Police Headquarters to deliver a petition in protest against police brutality. This was after the police fired teargas at school children during the Thabani Nkomonye Commemoration Day.
