MBABANE: A soldier who saved Students President Colani Maseko from being thrown out of an army speeding truck has been removed from a ‘hit’ list of soldiers wanted by the Ground Forces.
On Tuesday, a soldier identified as “Me Dlamini” was shot and killed at Mahlabatsini, New Village, Ground Forces claimed responsibility amid abduction of human rights defenders and killing of civilians by Mswati’s security forces.
Reached for comments,the newly appointed female Commander of the Ground Forces said they would need more details about the soldier who saved Colani so that he could not be targeted during the ongoing operation.
“We would need his picture, place of employment and residence so that he can be safe.I will then tell the members of the forces not to touch him, that's when he can be assured of his safety”,said the Commander.
Muzi Nhleko, the founding member of the Eswatini Kombis,Buses and Allied Workers Union(EKABAU) and a close friend to the Students Union President confirmed that there was a soldier who saved Colani from being thrown out of a moving truck.
“The information we have received from Colani is that even during the torture, the soldier would try to calm the others. After the torture, the other soldiers wanted to push Colani out of the speeding truck and this soldier suggested that he must be at least handed over to the police,” he said.
Lieutenant Tengetile Khumalo, the Army Spokesperson told this publication that she was waiting for a report from the Officer-in Charge before sharing a comment, since then, she had been avoiding to comment on the matter.
On another note,Machawe Ngwenya,one of the soldiers who tortured Maseko has fled his home area Luyengo for safety,he is wanted by members of the Ground Forces.
