KWALUSENI:Muzi Nhleko,the founding member of the Eswatini Buses,Kombis and Allied Workers Union(EKABAU)has on behalf of the organization announced a national shutdown with effect from Tuesday morning.
Speaking during a joint press conference with the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS)at Kwaluseni on Monday afternoon, Nhleko said they were demanding better working conditions for public transport employees including a salary increment.
The shutdown was also endorsed by the Students Union represented by Wakhile Lukhele, the Secretary General who stated that they were also demanding increased elderly grants, salary increment for public transport workers and increased allowances for students among others.
“With effect from tomorrow(Tuesday), public transport will not operate, we want these demands to be met”,said the Secretary General of the Students Union.
Efforts to reach Sabelo Dlamini, the Secretary General of the Eswatini Local Kombis Association proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
Eswatini is in the midst of a political unrest after King Mswati shot and killed civilians,the political tension is expected to escalate in the coming weeks.
