MBABANE:Lucky Velaphi Mamba, the Deputy Chairperson of the SNAT Nhlangano Branch was on Monday detained and assaulted for allegedly destroying a drone belonging to King Mswati’s police officers.
The police were spying on protestors who were marching to the Mbabane Police Headquarters in support of persecuted Mbongwa Dlamini, the President of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT).
On Monday, thousands of protestors accompanied Mbongwa Dlamini, the President of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers (SNAT) to the Police Headquarters where he was summoned by the National Commissioner of Police William Dlamini
Dlamini was accused of endorsing an order issued by the Swaziland International Solidarity Forces (SISF) to close schools last week Monday and Tuesday.
The SNAT President advised teachers to stay home amid the security threats.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Lucky Mamba, the Nhlangano Branch of SNAT Deputy Chairperson said he was the main suspect in the stoning of the drone.
“They brutalised me using the back of a gun on my back and all over the body while calling me all sorts of names,they then took me to the police station where I was further interrogated.They charged me for stoning the drone which is something I didn't do,” he said.
Phindile Vilakati, the eSwatini Police Spokesperson had not responded to our questions at the time of compiling this report.
Eswatini is in the midst of a political crisis after King Mswati unleashed his forces to shoot and kill dozens of civilians merely for demanding democratic reforms.
