University of Eswatini(UNESWA) to delay salaries amid financial constraints.

Thursday, 18th August, 2022

KWALUSENI: The University of Eswatini (UNESWA) will delay payment of salaries this month of August amid financial constraints.

In a memorandum released on Thursday, Dr Salebona Simelane, the UNESWA Registrar informed staff members that their salaries would be delayed due to insufficient funds.

“I am writing to inform you that there will be a delay in the payment of salaries in August, 2022 because of insufficient financial resources; however, every effort will be made to ensure that the salaries are paid by Friday 26 August, 2022", reads the memorandum in part.

Subsequent efforts to reach the UNESWA Registrar for a comment proved unsuccessful, he had not responded to our questions at the time of compiling this report.

The University is facing financial challenges after  King Mswati looted public funds for his own benefit.

Reached for comments, Bheki Mamba, the President of the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA)  accused the Tinkhundla system of Government for pushing people to poverty.

“We strongly condemn that and it’s an indication that the system is pushing our people to poverty. We call upon the Government to pay the wages with emmediate effect. We are conducting consultative meetings across all workers and that will culminate on an industrial action.Workers are tired of being treated as slaves in our motherland,”said the TUCOSWA President.
