MBABANE:Police fired a teargas canister at Swaziland News Journalist Nokwanda Mamba during a protest by University students here at Mbabane on Friday.
The Journalist was doing a live coverage of the protest where the students were demanding jobs and scholarships for all, a teargas canister exploded in front of her, hundreds were assaulted and shot by Mswati’s police.
“It exploded right in front of me and as I ran for cover, my cellphone fell and got crushed on the tarmac. That was about a few moments before the police car got burnt”,she said.
Police Spokesperson Phindile Vilakati had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Swaziland News editor Zweli Martin Dlamini condemned the shooting of the journalist.
”As a publication, we condemn the shooting of journalist Nokwanda Mamba and we will report this to regional and international media organizations,” said the editor.
Cellphone belonging to journalist Nokwanda Mamba crushed.
