NGCAYINI: Moses Vilakati, the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs says Government is committed in helping communities respond to the effects of climate change, Government online platforms reported on Wednesday.
Speaking during a tour of a Donga Rehabilitation Project funded through the Environment Fund at Ngcayini, the Minister said soil erosion was one of the challenges facing communities.
“As we were coming here, we saw it for ourselves that soil erosion is a big problem in this area, hence the need for future interventions. As such, because of the extent of the degradation, the rehabilitation works have been implemented in a progressive way.The Government is committed to helping communities effectively respond to the environmental and climate change challenges facing the country. When one looks at the grant amount and the work done, it is very pleasing to the heart. This is a real case of a project that demonstrates value for money. I am advised that this project is estimated to benefit 107 households that were directly affected by the existence of the donga,” said the Minister as quoted by Government online platforms.
