Tuesday, 22nd November, 2022

MBABANE: Lindiwe Gwebu-Dlamini, the Senate President has accused Non Governmental Organizations(NGOs) of funding terrorism in the country, eSwatini Observer, a State owned newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Dlamini who previously urged Prime Minister Cleopas Dlamini to take action and deal decisively with those calling for democratic reforms, questioned why the Central Bank of eSwatini(CBE) was not taking action and monitor the flow of funds.

“There is a lot of money that is financing terrorist activities if I am being blunt, yet there are institutions such as the Central Bank mandated to regulate and instil the law but seemingly do nothing,” said the Senate President as quoted by the eSwatini Observer.

Dlamini was speaking during a workshop for Senators to discuss Bills presented by the Ministry of Finance, the workshop was held at the Eswatini Revenue Service(ERS)Headquarters, Ezulwini on Monday.

Responding to the Senate President’s sentiments, Finance Minister Neal Rijikernberg said an investigation was conducted and it was discovered that the money financing the ‘terrorist’ activities came in cash not through the formal banking system.
