Floods cause multi-million damage,SNAT urges teachers to stay at home for safety as bridges overflow.

MBABANE:Floods have caused a multimillion damage across the country resulting to children struggling to travel to their respective schools.

Reached for comments, Lot Vilakati, the Secretary General of the Swaziland National Association of Teachers(SNAT) confirmed that bridges were flooding resulting to teachers and children struggling to reach schools.

“As rivers are flooding, children and teachers are struggling to reach schools. This is risky because at times, the rivers flood while the children are at school and they end-up risking by crossing due to the desperation to reach home. We urge teachers to stay at home in terms of safety laws,” said the SNAT Secretary General.

Bhekithemba Gama,the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education had not responded at the time of compiling this report.

Eswatini is facing floods that hit other countries within the Sub-Saharan Africa region, some of the flooding rivers include the Great Usuthu, Black Mbuluzi and Mkhondvo River.
