LOBAMBA:Major General Prince Simelane,the Minister of Housing and Urban Development has praised soldiers, the police and Correctional Officers for restoring peace and stability in the country.
Speaking in Parliament this week during the Budget Speech debate,the Minister urged Government to hire more security officers.
“The number of soldiers should not be less than fifteen thousand(15000),police ten thousand(10000) and Correctional Officers must not be less than six thousand(6000).I am talking about people who are the fence of the country,we are able to enjoy sleep today because of them,”said the Housing and Urban Development Minister.
The Minister spoke in the same Parliament around May 2021 and urged the police and soldiers to fight fire with fire,dozens were subsequently killed by security forces on the following month.
Reached for comments,Sibongile Mazibuko,the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC)said what was happening in the country had nothing to do with police and soldiers restoring peace.
“What is happening now is that mercenaries are working with soldiers and the police to kill people, some were dragged from their homes and killed,” said the NNLC President.
