MBABANE:Prince Mhlabuhlangene, the Chairperson of the Elections and Boundaries Commission(EBC)has assured the Nation that they will create an enabling environment for emaSwati to exercise their right to vote.
Addressing the media when making a presentation at Ezulwini on Wednesday, the EBC Chairperson said the elections would be held within sixty(60)days after the King dissolved the current Parliament,he warned those who are plotting to disrupt the elections.
“All necessary measures to provide an enabling environment that facilitates the conduct of credible 2023 General Elections are being undertaken,”said the Election Commission Chairman.
Reached for comments,Sikelela Dlamini, the Secretary General of the pro-democracy MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF)said it was very unfortunate that the EBC intends to continue with the elections while issuing threats against those who wanted to disrupt them instead of participating in a political dialogue.
“The reason people want to disrupt the elections is the fact that they are questioning the legitimacy of the EBC and by extension, the Tinkhundla system. We believe the only way to resolve this is to engage through a political dialogue,” said the MSF Secretary General.
