MBABANE:Sihle Dlamini, the King’s Interpreter says it is surprising to note that the United States(US) and European Union(EU) are busy preparing sanctions against the country yet these countries were involved in slave trade.
Speaking on Channel YeMaswati Television(TV) on Thursday, during the People’s and Places program hosted by veteran journalist Qhawe Mamba, the King’s Interpreter said these countries who want to impose their style of democracy in eSwatini were worse violators of human rights.
“It’s the US and EU that is busy preparing sanctions and we cannot forget that these countries were previously involved in slave trade,” said the King’s Interpreter.
A questionnaire was sent to Stephanie Arnold, the Spokesperson of the US Embassy in eSwatini, however, she has not responded at the time of compiling this report.
On another note,United States(US) Senator Christopher Coons, the Chairperson of the US Congress Commitee on Foreign Relations has tabled a resolution that seeks to,among others, impose targeted sanctions on individuals violating human rights in eSwatini.
