KING’S SPOKESPERSON PERCY SIMELANE:Don’t attack Judges over guilty verdict, pro-democracy MPs made a mistake that landed them in jail.

Saturday, 3rd June, 2023

MBABANE:Percy Simelane, the King’s Spokesperson has warned against the ongoing ‘attacks’ on the Judiciary, subsequent to a guilty verdict against incarcerated pro-democracy Members of Parliament(MPs) Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube.

In a message sent to this Swaziland News on Saturday evening, shortly after the Political Parties Assembly(PPA) described the guilty verdict by Judge Mumcy Dlamini as a miscarriage of justice, the King’s Spokesperson said, blaming the courts will result to people losing confidence in the judiciary and thereafter, criminality will become a norm.

“We wish there was no reason to lock-up anyone but because we are human we are prone to mistakes some of which land us in jail.Having said that we feel it is folly on our part as a nation to blame the courts or Judges because no one will trust them for anything and once we reach that stage we will never get over our criminality woes.We appeal for responsible behavior at the end of each case.Hurling accusations at Judges or courts will not get us anywhere as a Nation but introspection will,” said the King Spokesperson.

On another note, pro-democracy MPs Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube were found guilty on terrorism, sedition and murder among other politically motivated criminal charges.

The vibrant MPs were arrested merely for, demanding democratic reforms inside Parliament.

Eswatini is ruled by Mswati as an absolute Monarch, human rights defenders are persecuted for criticizing the King and calling for democracy.

But the King’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane consistently maintained that, responsible comments subsequent to such verdict must be made,to avoid tarnishing the image of the judiciary system.

“We still need one another to build the country that is the only place we can all proudly call home,” said the King’s Spokesperson.
