MBABANE: Phila Buthelezi, the Minister of Labour and Social Security has thanked all stakeholders for their patience, as University students receive their allowances.

The students started receiving their monies last night while others confirmed on social media platforms that indeed, they have received an in-contact.

But Gabie Ndukuya, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) said even though it’s true that some students banking with the First National Bank(FNB) have received their allowances, those with Nedbank Eswatini and other banks “are yet to receive the money”.

The Students Union President further mentioned that University students who were awarded scholarships by Government late in March 2023, are yet to receive their allowances.

“We can confirm that students who bank with FNB received their allowances but, others with the other banks are yet to receive it, we believe it’s still coming. But having confirmed that, there are other students who were awarded scholarships by government late in March, they haven’t received their monies,we don’t know which criteria is the government using when releasing the money,”said the Students Union President.

On another note, Labour Minister Phila Buthelezi released a press statement on Monday afternoon, informing all students that they will start receiving their allowances last night.

“The Ministry of Labour and Social Security would like to thank all students and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during this period,” reads the statement in part.
