MBABANE: At least more than ten(10) jobs were created within three(3) months after King Mswati rejected retiring elderly requests for contract renewal.
Urban Development Principal Secretary(PS) Clifford Mamba, Senior Deputy Commissioner Richard Mngometulu and Director Urban Government Tito Simelane, are some of the high profile individuals who recently retired after unsuccessfully attempts to have their contracts renewed.
Gideon Mhlongo, the Mbabane Manicipality Chief Executive Officer(CEO) had his request for a contract renewal rejected by Prince Simelane, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
Other two top civil servants who retired include former Director within the Policy and Programme Coordination Unit,Wisdom Zwane and former Executive Officer Richard Masimula, they both retired in March and April 2023 respectively.
It could not be ascertained if the two(2) made attempts to have their contracts renewed.
Reached for comments, Gabie Ndukuya, the President of the Swaziland National Union of Students(SNUS) said it’s encouraging for them as the youth,to see the retiring elderly going home as that creates job opportunities.
“But in as much as we see the vacancies after the retirement of the elderly, we are not seeing the youth being employed. We want to see the youth holding top positions after the retirement of the elderly,” said the Students Union President.
Responding to a questionnaire from this Swaziland News earlier,King’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane advised those who’s contracts had expired should not to approach the King.
Simelane said, those whose services were still needed will be approached.
“To the best of my knowledge the Constitution does not say anyone who wants to continue serving may approach the King. With Government it’s a norm to ask for an extension which is either approved or denied”, said the King’s Spokesperson.
