MBABANE: Zweli Martin Dlamini, the editor of this Swaziland News says, the recent meeting between King Mswati and Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema could be one of the positive steps towards political engagements to end the tension in eSwatini, considering the fact that the latter was one of the most reputable Heads of State within the Southern African Development Community(SADC) region.
Speaking to Rise FM, a South African radio station on Thursday evening, the editor said Heads of State can easily engage on the same level on political issues, particularly because one of SADC’s mandate is to promote peace and stability while enhancing regional integration.
Dlamini was asked to analyse the King’s trip to Zambia and how it will benefit the people for both countries.
“What I can say is the fact that there are other efforts that I cannot disclose here because they were shared to me in confidence by diplomatic sources. But there are other efforts to engage Mswati to host a political dialogue as per the recommendations of the SADC. So, if we see Heads of State in the SADC region coming together, we still have that hope that, apart from such trade or economic discussions, they will also engage on political issues with the intention of resolving what is happening in Swaziland. If the situation in Swaziland is not resolved, all that they were discussing in terms of trade and investment, would be nothing but a dream because stability in politics enhance economic and social development,” said the editor.
King Mswati returned home on Wednesday after a State visit in Zambia, while in that country, the King toured, among others, the Lusaka Multi-Facility Economic Zone.
