LOBAMBA: Copper thieves invaded the Parliament building on Tuesday night and grabbed copper, resulting to disturbances in the communications within the House of Legislature.
Reached for comments, Khaya Mavuso, the Eswatini Electricity Company(EEC) Corporate and Communications Manager said, only Eswatini Post and Telecommunications Corporation(EPTC) were affected, otherwise, electricity was available in Parliament.
“Afternoon Dlamini. Balingani baka EPTC.Otherwise from our side we are ok and there is electricity in Parliament,” said the Electricity Company Communications Manager in a message sent to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
Efforts to reach Themba Khumalo, the Managing Director of the Eswatini Telecommunications, proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.
Copper theft cases are on the rise in eSwatini, despite efforts by the police and other stakeholders to mitigate the criminal activity.
On Thursday around 10am, technicians from the EPTC were busy next to the Parliament building fixing and replacing the stolen copper.
