MBABANE:Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress (NNLC) has advised royalty to hand over power to the people in the midst of the escalating number of citizens living below the poverty line.
Eswatini, a tiny Kingdom ruled by King Mswati has about 70% of the 1.3million population sinking into poverty and this means over 700 000 citizens are living with less than $1.00 per day.
Speaking to this Swaziland News in an interview, the NNLC President said it was now clear that royalty was slowly losing popularity among the citizens as more reports emerge that they are living an extravagant lifestyle while the citizens are hungry. She said if the people who entrusted the Monarchy with power with the hope that the King will distribute resources among the citizens, now risk starving to death then it means royalty has failed.
“It is now evident that the Tinkhundla government is struggling and it has failed the people. This has been proven as schools are struggling to operate, no PPEs for health workers, small businesses are suppressed and no Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for civil servants. It is therefore in the spirit of humanity to peacefully hand over power to the people once you have failed.(Bengitsi-ke mine hulumende weTinkhundla, humelende welikhaya lelitsite longasiye webantfu akeneke lijezi. Kuye kube kuhle nawunikwe intfo yebantfu seyikwehlula bese weneka lijezi. Bukhosi naHulumende weTinkhundla abeneke lijezi babuyisele emandla kubantfu.) Even the Chinese now donate the food directly to the people because they have realized royalty uses hunger as a tool of oppression after the donated food was kept in Matsapha stores until it rotted” she said.
