MBABANE: Prime Minister Cleopas Sipho Dlamini received a courtesy visit from the United Nations(UN) Habitat Director for the Africa Regional Office, Sylla Oumar, Government online platforms reported on Monday.
It has been reported that among, other things discussed, was the UN’s interest to establish a UN Habitat in Eswatini, to which the Director called for Eswatini’s support.
“When talking about land planning, we are probably the worst country as far as that is concerned because we have urban title land and Eswatini Nation Land; which is under traditional structures and in that part of the land, there is virtually no planning. We do need to revisit our policies and see if they serve us well and we look forward to the growth of infrastructure. As we have informal settlements mushrooming anywhere in close proximity of cities, it creates a problem because in future when we have to resettle them; it will create an expensive problem. We do need that assistance to do proper planning,” said the Prime Minister.
The meeting with PM was also attended by, among others, George Wachira, the UN Resident Coordinator and Prince Sidzindzi Simelane, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
