MBABANE: On Thursday, this Swaziland News sent a questionnaire to King Mswati’s Spokesperson Percy Simelane regarding the highly anticipated political dialogue recommended by the Southern African Development Community(SADC), here are questions and responses from the King’s Office;
Good day Percy Simelane(King’s Spokesperson). Kindly respond to the following questions regarding the King’s trip to the SADC Summit.
1. SWAZILAND NEWS: How many trips does the King seek to undertake or fact finding missions before engaging those calling for democracy?.
KING’S SPOKESPERSON: Eswatini has a Constitution to guide leadership and the Nation in as far as dialogues are concerned and not one particular citizen is expected to determine the number of fact finding missions to be undertaken before a political dialogue is convened. We therefore have no reasons to think the King can single- handedly determine a number of fact-finding missions by anyone anywhere in the world. The right to overturn the Constitution and replace it with opinionated interventions does not exist.
2. SWAZILAND NEWS: According to your assessment, is the political crisis over?.
KING’S SPOKESPERSON: In our own assessment Eswatini had a social challenge during the June 2021 uprising involving mainly acts of criminal nature, not necessarily a crisis because it still knew what to do to reverse the situation yet practically crisis may means one has reached a dead-end and does not know what to do next.From about December last year, in particular, normalcy has been returning, and the citizens of this country have breathing a sigh of relief.To be where it is today the Swati Nation lifted itself by its own boot straps and no particular mission can claim by-line.
