MBABANE: “How can a government that is not free and democratic allows individuals to freely participate in elections with an intention of fighting the system from within?”, Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo questioned Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane, the President of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) last week.
This was during the panel discussion between Nxumalo who was representing Government, SWALIMO President Magawugawu and Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO), the live discussion on eSwatini politics was hosted by the South African Broadcasting Corporation(SABC).
The SWALIMO President had accused the government of holding undemocratic elections.
“Actually, we don’t want these elections because they are not democratic. But, the people decided that they want to go to Parliament to continue with what was started by the three(3) Members of Parliament(MPs) in demanding democracy”, said the SWALIMO President.
But Nxumalo maintained that, the elections and the entire Tinkhundla system was democratic adding that, as a result, even those who declared that they want to fight government from within, were allowed to freely participate.
