MBABANE:Alpheous Nxumalo, the Government Spokesperson says, his office won’t reduce itself and respond to the press statement released by the Spokesperson of the Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) Thantaza Silolo, subsequent to his sentiments with regards to the organization’s participation in the ongoing Tinkhundla elections.
This comes after Nxumalo told the South African Broadcasting Corporation(SABC) during a panel discussion last week that, the Tinkhundla system “remains democratic” that’s why, it allowed SWALIMO members to participate in the elections with an intention to fight the regime from within.
The Government Spokesperson is politically outpacing Mduduzi Magawugawu Simelane these days, after the former Member of Parliament(MP) legitimized the Tinkhundla system by encouraging his members to register, participate and contest, the ex-MP subsequently claimed that the system was not democratic after it became clear that, he was failing in his mission to occupy at least forty(40) seats in Parliament.
In a press statement sent to this Swaziland News by the SWALIMO Spokesperson, the political organization accused Nxumalo of feeding the Swazi Nation and the international community with lies adding that, the political organization never participated in the ongoing elections but members, in their individual capacity, did.
“The Swaziland Liberation Movement(SWALIMO) is flabbergasted at the government spokesperson, one Mr Alpheous Nxumalo who has been consistent at feeding the Swazi Nation and the international community lies in relation to the politics of Swaziland and SWALIMO as an organization.First of all SWALIMO is not participating in these sham Tinkhundla elections but the movement called on emaSwati to contest space in the elections and since SWALIMO has membership, some members took part in the elections through their various communities as nominated with an aim of ensuring Parliament represents the interests of the people”, reads the statement in part, released by the SWALIMO Spokesperson.
Responding to this Swaziland News on Wednesday morning,Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo said, Magawugawu was given an opportunity to respond during the panel discussion hosted by the SABC, and if he failed to represent his organization, it cannot be his duty to provide corrective and afterthoughts responses.
“I can not reduce my office to that level Nkhosi,my apologies.I responded to an invitation by SABC for a panel discussion to which I duly and positively responded. And if they feel like their leader didn't respond or represented them well, it's none of my business to afford them corrective or after thought responses.Thank you Mlangeni”,said the Government Spokesperson.
