MBABANE:Sivumelwano Nyembe, the Spokesperson of the pro-democracy MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF) has, on behalf of the organization, issued a statement condemning the dismissal of SNAT President Mbongwa Dlamini.
SNAT stands for the Swaziland National Association of Teachers, the organization’s President has been fired by the Teaching Service Commission(TSC) for alleged absenteeism as persecution of trade union leaders continues here in eSwatini.
“The recent dismissal of SNAT president Comrade MBONGWA DLAMINI by the government highlights a pressing need for national dialogue and a renewed focus on fundamental human values. It underscores the imperative for acknowledging and upholding the social contract that binds society together. We strongly condemn the state's actions in persecuting leaders of the mass democratic movement. Trade union leaders hold significant importance in our society and should be treated with the respect they rightfully deserve. They play a crucial role as partners in the social contract, advocating for the rights and well-being of workers and citizens.Trade unions are a cornerstone of a democratic society, providing a measure by which the presence or absence of democratic values can be assessed. In this context, the government's attention should be directed toward pressing matters that require immediate action, including ensuring adequate scholarships for students, procuring life-saving medications for healthcare facilities, addressing the issue of rising crime rates, and combating unemployment.
Regrettably, the government appears to be allocating resources and effort to activities that contribute to further unemployment and do not align with the needs of the citizens”,said the MSF Spokesperson in a statement sent to this Swaziland News on Saturday evening.
