MBABANE: The novel coronavirus has claimed another life in the country taking the death toll to 14. In a ministerial statement issued by the Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi, the ministry has reported the sad news.
“The ministry of Health sadly reports the 14 death of a person as a result of confirmed COVID-19 disease over the past 24 hours. The deceased is a 45 year old female from the Hhohho Region with history of recent travel to South Africa. She died within 24 hours of admission in one of the health facilities in the country. May her soul rest in peace,” reads part of the statement issued by Minister Nkosi.
The minister noted the increase in numbers of deaths of confirmed COVID-19 cases as a result of co-existing medical conditions such as Diabetics Mellitus, Hypertension, Cardiac disease and Asthma. She urged the public, especially males to ensure that they do medical check-ups regularly and those diagnosed with chronic illnesses should adhere to the treatment as advised by health workers.
Speaking to this publication, Bheki Mamba, the president of Swaziland Democratic Nurse’s Union (SWADNU) expressed his concerns about the facilities prepared for admission.
“It is very unfortunate, we send our heartfelt condolences to all the relatives of those who have lost during these trying times. We do not blame the patients for waiting until it’s a bit late because our facilities are so much challenged in terms of drugs and other basic necessities that our patients require,” said the President.
