OPINION:It will not end well for Zimbabwean dictator Emerson Mnangagwa, forceful removal long-overdue.

Sunday, 10th September, 2023

Zimbabwean dictator Emerson Mnangagwa climbed the political ladder through a military coup, he plotted the removal of the late President Robert Mugabe with the then Army Commander General Constantino Chiwenga.

But before that, Mnangagwa fled to South Africa for safety as Mugabe wanted to arrest him after receiving intelligence information with regards to the plot to take over power.

While in the neighboring country, Mnangagwa who is also a soldier, was remotely communicating with Chiwenga plotting the coup.

After the successful removal of Mugabe, General Chiwenga became loyal to Mnangagwa and handed over the power to him on a ‘silver’ plate, perhaps, as per their ‘agreement’.

Even though the dramatic events leading to the coup against Robert Mugabe manifested around November 2017, two years later around July 2019, General Chiwenga had to be rushed to China for medical treatment, there was reasonable suspicions suggesting that, the now Zimbabwe Vice President was poisoned with the independent media alleging that, this was after he was invited for lunch by President Emerson Mnangagwa.

It should be noted that,Mnangagwa might think his political enemies are within the main opposition being the Citizen Coalition for Change(CCC) but the truth is; he is yet to face exactly what he did to former dictator President Robert Gabriel Mugabe.

The Zimbabwean army is still loyal to  Vice President General Chiwenga and therefore, Mnangagwa might face the citizens of Zimbabwe who are now backing the CCC to govern the country while battling with the internal power struggle that is yet to intensify.

Perhaps, if one were to geographically describe what is happening within the Zimbabwean corridors of powers now, the political events “are more like an active volcano” that might erupt anytime.

It cannot be possible that General Constantino Chiwenga is not aware who attempted to kill him through poisoning.

The game of ‘eliminating’ political foes particularly the opposition through assassinations and poisoning is well-understood by the military hence General Chiwenga might be in possession of an intelligence report in this regard.

Recently, President Mnangagwa who allegedly rigged elections uttered sentiments that demonstrated that, the dictator “is now power drunk”, he referred to members of the opposition as ‘little boys’.

It is very disturbing to note that, a dictator who climbed the political ladder through a military coup, opted to undermine the will of the people by rigging elections and further went on to refer to future leaders of Zimbabwe as ‘little boys’.

Rigging elections is a serious violation of democratic principles particularly, the right to vote, Mnangagwa single-handedly ‘showed’ a middle finger to millions of Zimbabweans by disregarding their will expressed through the ballot box and went on to mock the opposition.

But seemingly, all dictators who were later removed from power behaved like Emmerson Mnangagwa in their last days, it’s just a matter of time, Zimbabweans will taste their freedom.

But in conclusion, it is worth mentioning that Mnangagwa is used to the political tactic of rigging elections, in 2008 he colluded with Robert Mugabe to block Morgan Tsvangirai of the now almost defunct Movement for Democratic Change(MDC) from being a Head of State, despite a legitimate mandate from millions of Zimbabweans through the ballot box.

Political violence subsequently erupted with Robert Mugabe and Mnangagwa’s army and the police abducting and killing members of the opposition.

King Mswati, in his capacity as the Chairman of the Southern African Development Community(SADC) successfully intervened by facilitating a political dialogue between Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangarai, both leaders signed and agreed to rule the country through a Government of National Unity(GNU).

After King Mswati’s successful negotiation process, the people of Zimbabwe were able to taste peace for only five(5) years, thereafter, political violence and a crackdown on members of the opposition erupted again.

The international community must as a matter of urgency, facilitate the removal of President Emerson Mnangagwa.

Alternatively, the dictator must do the honorable thing by stepping down and surrender power to the legitimate leaders of the CCC who were elected by the Zimbabweans to lead their country.
