LOZITHA: Percy Simelane, the King’s Spokesperson says,the Constitution does not allow King Mswati and Chiefs to vote during elections.
Responding to questions from this Swaziland News, when asked to clarify if the King who encouraged the public to participate in the elections did register to vote, the Spokesperson said the Monarch was restricted by the Constitution to do so.
“In this country the King does not take part in elections.Constitutionally Chiefs too cannot contest”,said the King’s Spokesperson.
Speaking to this Swaziland News, Sibongile Mazibuko, the President of the Ngwane National Liberatory Congress(NNLC) said, Chiefs including Tindvuna teMicuba must stay away from elections and further refrain from influencing voters who to vote for.
“Umphakatsi should be a home for everyone, Chiefs and Tindvuna must refrain from influencing elections including telling people who to vote for”, said the NNLC President.
