EKUTSIMULENI: Rogers Mamba, the former Minister of Tinkhundla and Development who now holds a traditional position as eKutsimuleni Indvuna,allegedly sent a battalion of armed police officers from the Operational Support Services Unit(OSSU), to stop the funeral of Richard Velaphi Sangweni.
As a result, Sangweni’s family was forced to cancel a night vigil in the early hours on Saturday and “send Sangweni’s body” back to Dups Funeral.
The family wanted to bury Sangweni at Luve Phalala area, within the premises of his home next to his late wife,however,uMphakatsi ordered that, he must be buried at Lutfotja Mountain.
A questionnaire was sent to eKutsimuleni Indvuna Rogers Mamba, however, he had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Khulekani Shongwe, a resident of eKutsimuleni who was part of the funeral confirmed that, the police arrived to stop the funeral.
“Police arrived to stop the funeral and we were shocked to see State law enforcement officers being used by uMphakatsi to stop funerals and persecute residents”, said the eKutsimuleni resident when speaking to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.
