MBABANE: King Mswati who is attending the United Nations(UN) General Assembly is booked Mandarin Oriental Hotel-New York, that costs between twenty-four and forty thousand Rands (R24,000.00-R40,000.00) per night for Very Very Important Persons(VVIPs).
This was confirmed when this Swaziland News called the Hotel on Monday morning to enquire about the costs for VVIPs per-night.
The King left the country on Sunday, he was accompanied by Inkhosikati LaMahlangu, Ministers, royal family members and officials from the King’s Office.
Reached for comments, Percy Simelane, the King’s Spokesperson said, there was no way he could be aware as his office was not handling hotel bookings and payments for the King.
“We don't handle hotel bookings and payments.We would therefore not know about hotel room rates and monetary transactions pegged to the delegation in question”, said the King’s Spokesperson.
On another note, the King was welcomed with a surprise birthday cake upon arrival at the Hotel.
Eswatini has about 70% of the population living below the poverty line, the country is currently struggling with a health crisis amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals.
