LUDZIDZINI: Sibongile Ndlela-Simelane, the former Minister of Health has called for the establishment of a fund to support aspiring Members of Parliament(MPs) after winning Primary Elections adding that, this will mitigate corruption in the race to Senate.
Speaking at Ludzidzini Palace on Tuesday afternoon during the ongoing Sibaya People’s Parliament, the former Minister said, while they were campaigning to be voted to Senate, the MPs,perhaps due to financial challenges, were not considering competency from the candidates but what they will get so they can reduce their debts accumulated during elections campaigns.
“If we can have at least R1million per Constituency and that money must be distributed to the aspiring MPs to pay Bo-Galajane.I thought others will touch-on what happened in the race to Senate but, as I’m listening no one is touching this matter. The MPs were not voting based on competency or experience but their vote was influenced by what you have given them”, said the former Health Minister.
