UNITED NATIONS CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE:Eswatini Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini pledges support for SADC Great Green Wall Initiative(GGWI).

DUBAI:Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has pledged Eswatini’s support for the Southern African Development Community(SADC) Great Green Wall Initiative (GGWI), Government online platforms reported on Saturday.

The PM was speaking during the ongoing United Nations(UN) Climate Change Conference held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates(UAE).

“Eswatini is amongst the few countries within SADC that has successfully developed a GGWI National Action Plan. The aim of the National Action Plan is to promote sustainable land management approaches that retain ecological integrity, provide a range of ecosystem goods and services towards driving economic growth and supporting sustainable development.In full alignment with the GGW SADC strategy, the overall objective is to combat desertification, land degradation and mitigate the effects of drought to achieve land degradation neutrality through an effective and efficient implementation by 2030,” said the Prime Minister when addressing the UN Climate Change Conference.

It has been reported that, other leaders who pleaded support for the SADC Great Green Wall Initiative include the President of Angola João Lourenço, the President of Zimbabwe Emmerson Mnangagwa and Commonwealth Secretary General Patricia Scotland.
