Wednesday, 20th December, 2023

NKHANINI:Prince Mhlabuhlangene, the Chairman of the Elections and Boundaries Commission(EBC) says, an internal investigation in collaboration with the police is ongoing within the Commission amid allegations of ‘ghost’ employees.

The phrase ‘ghost employees’ refers to individuals added to an organization’s payment system to fraudulently benefit through salaries when in actually fact, they don’t work there.

In a text message sent to this journalist on Tuesday afternoon, the Elections Commission Chairman said, the investigation into the allegations of ‘ghost’ employees also resulted to the delay in releasing payments for Election Clerks.

“Hlubi,it has been a bit of a very unfortunate challenge we had come across, wherein there were allegations of possible anomalies of ‘ghost’ employees, that had to have been quickly investigated and resolved if it was true or not, which is still ongoing in collaboration with law enforcement”, said the Elections Commission Chairman.

The Prince then assured those who are expecting their salaries that, the Commission will release the payments this week.He said apart from the investigation to screen the payroll, the slow Government payment system caused further delays in the processing of the salaries.

The Elections Commission Chairman said, such challenges enabled the Commission to consider facilitating a financial independence with and from the Government.
