BIG-BEND:Fidelity Security Guards under Illovo Sugar Limited allege that, they were promised three thousand five hundred Rands (R3,500) as a salary per-month but, the Management later told them that a Government Gazette restricts payment of ‘huge’ salaries.

“We are now paid only two thousand seven hundred Rands(R2700) yet they promised us R3500, they told us it’s in the Government Gazette”, said one of the security guards.

Reached for comments on Tuesday evening,Illovo Project Manager Sifiso Khumalo said, the matter must be addressed by the contracted security company.

“I am only in charge of operations not security, this matter must be addressed by the security company”,said the Project Manager when speaking to editor Zweli Martin Dlamini.

Efforts to seek a comment from Fidelity Management proved unsuccessful at the time of compiling this report.

Responding to this publication on the subject matter, Wander Mkhonza, the Secretary General(SG) of the Amalgamated Trade Union of Swaziland(ATUSWA) urged the security guards to take legal action against their employer.

“Even if it’s above the Government Gazette, if the employer promised them R3.500,that is a contractual obligation that the employer must fulfill. So this means by paying less of the promised amount, the employer is owing the employees and the employees must visit CMAC offices and open a labour dispute”, said the ATUSWA Secretary General.
