MATSAPHA: Phindile Dlamini,the Commissioner General of the Correctional Services has been rewarded with a three(3) year contract, a few months after unleashing warders to assault convicted political prisoners including Members of Parliament(MPs) Bacede Mduduzi Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube.
The renewal of the Commissioner General’s contract of employment was confirmed by Justice Minister Prince Simelane when touring the Matsapha Prison this week.
“We would like to congratulate the Commissioner General of getting a three(3) year contract”, said the Justice Minister.
A questionnaire was sent to the Commissioner General, however, she had not responded at the time of compiling this report.
Reached for comments, Mlungisi Makhanya, the President of the eSwatini’s largest and main political party, the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) described the promotion as a reward for persecuting political prisoners including assaulting the pro-democracy MPs.
“The Commissioner General has been at the forefront in issuing orders to assault political activists when they are outside and inside prison. She has also been at the forefront of instructing warders to ensure that, the incarceration of political activists is a daily nightmare characterized by unprovoked brutal assaults, deprivation of inmates rights to contact family and friends, deliberate starvation and complete cut-off of any means of contact with the outside world”, said the PUDEMO President.
