Former PUDEMO Secretary General human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko once led University students in a hunger strike,UN Eswatini Communications Officer Sibusiso Mngadi reported story.

MBABANE: Thulani Maseko,the human rights lawyer who was allegedly assassinated by King Mswati’s mercenaries once led University students in a hunger strike.

The Eswatini Observer reported that,subsequent to the hunger strike, Maseko and the other students’ parents demanded to have an audience with the then University Council Chairman Prince Phinda.

The story was written by the then Eswatini Observer seasoned journalist,now United Nations(UN) Eswatini Communications Officer Sibusiso Mngadi.

“Parents of the five hunger strike students of the University of Swaziland yesterday appealed to the Chairman of the University Council Prince Phinda, to call an urgent meeting to address the plight of their children.The parents said they will demand the immediate re-instatement of their children to the University”, reads part of the Eswatini Observer report.

Human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko was the Vice President of the Students Representative Council(SRC), he was also a member of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) holding the position of Secretary General, PUDEMO is eSwatini’s main and largest political party.

Maseko was assassinated while holding the position of Chairperson of the pro-democracy MultiStakeholder(MSF) Forum and was corresponding with the Southern African Development Community(SADC) and other international human rights organizations in facilitating a political dialogue as part of peaceful means to resolve the eSwatini political crisis.
