MBABANE:A majority of women are struggling to get married,a survey conducted by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development in collaboration with the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund(UNICEF) has found.
The results of the sixth Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS6) were launched and announced on Thursday at the George Hotel in Manzini.
It has been disclosed through the report that, a majority of women and men aged between fifteen and forty-nine(15-49)were never married (57% and 70%, respectively) and and only one(1)in four(4)children live with both parents while a majority (38%) live with their mothers only.
Government online platforms reported that, the survey also found that, that most children 0-17 years come from poor households (22% of children under 5 and 21% of children 5-17) and are born to mothers with primary education(30% for children 5-17 and 24% for children under 5.)
It has been reported that, the MICS is conducted every five years and its main objective is to provide updated information on core national indicators to assist policy makers and programme implementers to monitor and evaluate existing programmes and evaluate the country’s achievement on the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs).
