MBABANE:Alpheous Nxumalo, the retiring Government Spokesperson says,as Government, they are not afraid of the looming United States(US) targeted sanctions against the King and other human rights violators.
Responding indirectly to an article published by this Swaziland News in his online platforms, the Government Spokesperson said, sanctions have outlived their uselessness.
This comes after this publication, quoting an X(formerly Twitter)comment from the US Foreign Relations Commitee, published a story where United States Senators urged their colleagues to speed-up the process of passing Resolution 174 that seeks to impose targeted sanctions against those violating human rights in eSwatini.
The US Senators were reacting to threats against assassinated human rights lawyer Thulani Maseko’s widow Tanele Maseko.
“Let those who dream about the possibility of sanctions to be instruments of forcing States around the globe to dance to a certain political rhythm continue to do so, we wish them well in their dreams”, said the Government Spokesperson who had earlier banned public officials from commenting on articles published by this Swaziland News.
Nxumalo had not responded to this publication at the time of compiling this report, he was asked to clarify the online statement.
On another note, the Government Spokesperson further repeated the threats against the wife to the assassinated human rights lawyer, some political activists told this publication that, the safety of the widow cannot be guaranteed after the threats from Eswatini Government.
