Health Minister Mduduzi Matsebula says eSwatini ready to deal with emerging new Influenza-like, COVID-19 amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals, Nurses Union rules him off-side.

MBABANE: Mduduzi Matsebula, the Minister of Health has expressing the country’s readiness to deal with the emerging and spreading Influenza-like, COVID-19 virus.

Eswatini is facing a health crisis amid shortage of drugs subsequent to the looting of public funds by suppliers and senior Government officials.

“The Ministry of Health has noted with concern the increase in cases of influenza-like illnesses and confirmed COVID-19 cases in the SADC Region, as reported daily and aggregated weekly. The Nation will be informed promptly when the situation changes, in order to minimize the negative impact from these public health threats. The Nation is urged to use a face mask when experiencing flue symptoms and test for COVID-19 if symptoms are worsening. The mainstay for prevention of diseases is hygiene, including washing hands frequently with running water and soap and using sanitizers. The Ministry urges the Nation to be alert and take precautions when traveling to countries that have reported an increase in cases of COVID-19," reads the statement released by the Minister of Health.

Reached for comments by this Swaziland News, Mayibongwe Masangane, the Secretary General(SG)of the Swaziland Democratic Nurses Union(SWADNU) said,  the country is never prepared for such infections diseases.

“The country's health is in crisis there are no drugs to deal with such ailments. It is unfortunate that the poor will suffer as medication is purchased by patients. As a Union we feel the country is never prepared for such diseases," said the SWADNU Secretary General.
