“It would be unheard of for our courts to order a journalist to give prior notice of stories to the subjects of those stories,” said CFE’s Anton Harber.
The Professor further mentioned that the case “is largely about an internal Eswatini political struggle, but it has potential implications for the work of journalists if it goes ahead. It is an attempt to bring the repression in Eswatini into South Africa.CFE is watching the case closely”, he said.
Worth-noting, another South African organization has contacted the editor and his legal team seeking to hire its own legal team and join the case in defense of media freedom.
This was after the matter was widely published by the South African media, the editor has been facing persecution by the eSwatini King and his Government for publishing critical articles.
