MBABANE:Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini says,Government will continue supporting Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society “so that they may continue to carry out their mandate in the country”, Government online platforms reported on Thursday afternoon.

It has been reported that, the PM was speaking when officially opening the Southern Africa Partnership of Red Cross Societies (SAPRCS) meeting at the Hilton Hotel-Mbabane.

The two-day meeting brings together ten(10) Red Cross National Societies in Southern Africa with the aim of strengthening cooperation and standardizing Red Cross operations while collectively tackling issues of common interest.

The Red Cross Society has been of great assistance to the country, particularly during difficult periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic and national disasters, as well as in addressing food insecurity and health care challenges. This support was evident during Eswatini’s fight against COVID-19 where, I am told, the Society engaged in a gate-to-gate awareness raising campaign and managed to reach approximately 180 000 households with over 400 000 people from 42 constituencies. This is quite commendable.Currently, the Red Cross is under the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office and the Government is providing a subvention to Baphalali so that they may efficiently provide health care services in the three Red Cross clinics (Mahwalala, Sigombeni and Silele) and also assist in responding to disasters,” said the Prime Minister.
