SIGANGENI:Joseph Mkebhe Dlamini, a resident of Sigangeni has been evicted allegedly by Indvuna Phazamisa Mhlanga as human rights violations and/or demolition of homes belonging to the poor intensify in eSwatini.
As a result, the victim spent the night sleeping in the open space without shelter on Friday evening, human rights activists that include Sivumelwano Nyembe of the MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF) rushed to monitor the situation.
Dlamini said the Indvuna accused him of being a witch(umtsakatsi) and not respecting the Royal Kraal(uMphakatsi).
“Indvuna is accusing me of kutsakatsa and not respecting uMphakatsi, he ordered me to leave the area”, he said.
Efforts are being made to contact the Indvuna for a comment amid the human rights violations.
But Sivumelwano Nyembe, the Spokesperson of the MultiStakeholder Forum(MSF) who personally went to visit the victim said, they were working towards challenging the eviction.
“We are working with other organizations to challenge the eviction in court”, he said.
The eviction of the Sigangeni resident comes amid evictions at Gege-Mbondzela and Alpheous Nxumalo, the Government Spokesperson said,Government was in full support of the ongoing evictions and warned that, police will deal with anyone who will protest.
Nxumalo’s sentiments come after the police assaulted members of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO), the Communist Party of Swaziland(CPS) and the Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) Swaziland this week merely for protesting against the ongoing human rights violations.
Eswatini is not democratic, citizens are evicted from their land, arrested, tortured or killed for demanding democratic reforms.
Reached for comments on Saturday morning Sidney Nyembe, the Secretary General of the Swaziland Concerned Church Leaders(SCCL) said, as an organization, they are working on the matter.
“We are trying to approach the courts and ensure that he sleeps in a house today ngoba nje itolo bekubandza kakhulu abelele ngaphandle. But on the other hand, we are engaging the Eswatini Red Cross to support with a tent should the matter drag in court, he must at least have a a shelter”, said the Secretary General of the Swaziland Concerned Church Leaders(SCCL).
The evictions and demolition of homes might spread to other parts of the country as the rich, powerful and politically connected intensify the grabbing of land belonging to the poor and powerless.
