United Nations(UN) Eswatini Resident Coordinator George Wachira emphasizes importance of the Human Development Report(HDR), says it provides critical insight.

MBABANE:George Wachira,the United Nations(UN) Eswatini Resident Coordinator has emphasized the importance of the Human Development Report(HDR) that was launched and submitted to the United Nations Development Program(UNDP)last week.

The report in context, is focusing more on human development while influencing global domestic and regional policies on human development.

Speaking on Friday when welcoming guests during the launch of the report, the UN Eswatini Coordinator thanked UNDP for sustaining the tradition including advocating for its implementation.

“Over the years,the Human Development Report has become a must-read, providing us with critical insights into the state of human development globally and within our own borders including here in Eswatini.I thank and congratulate UNDP for starting and sustaining the tradition of this important report. My special congratulations especially on this year’s report, whose Africa-launch I had the pleasure to witness in Addis Ababa late last month”, said the UN Eswatini Resident Coordinator. 

On another note,Dr Thambo Gina, the Minister of Economic Planning and Development who was speaking through a representative said, he was confident that the country will do better in the coming years in improving human development.

"Considering the progress made,we have confidence that we can do better in the remaining five years towards the achievement of the SDGs.We hope to learn more as we continue to engage in conversations around the Human Development Report so that we can shape our policies and achieve our national goals and the SDGs by 2030.I, however,want to assure that Government and her development partners are working around the clock to address pre- mature deaths and other challenges in our health system”, said the Economic Planning Minister as quoted by Government online platforms.

The Minister further promised that, the country will work towards overcoming the challenges within the health sector, amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals.
