PRIME MINISTER RUSSELL MMISO DLAMINI CALLS URGENT PRESS CONFERENCE AS CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS INTENSIFIES:Will he apologize to Auditor General(AG) and withdraw his reckless statements?.

Monday, 10th June, 2024

MBABANE:Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has called an urgent press conference to be held at the Cabinet Offices on Monday 10th June 2024 as the constitutional crisis triggered by his reckless statements where he labeled the Office of the Auditor General(AG) incompetent intensifies.

This comes after this Swaziland News, quoting a source from the King’s Governing Council, reported that, the Prime Minister has been ordered to apologize and withdraw his statements unconditionally, before the King returns from Singapore.

But it remains to be seen if the PM will apologize and restore order in public administration after the reckless statements that castrated the Office of the Auditor General.

Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo declined to comment about the Prime Minister’s urgent press conference.

The Prime Minister made the statements after being challenged to account for R210million that allegedly went missing under his watch, while he was serving as the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of the National Disaster Management Agency(NDMA), part of the millions were meant to be distributed to poor emaSwati as grants during the lockdown.

“It is important that we have to begin to look at whether the reports of the Auditor General can now be relied upon.Yes I’m saying that, just hold on, just listen you need to listen to that.We now have to work on whether the reports of the Auditor General can be relied upon.Let me give you an example;the country now understands that there’s R180million missing from NDMA, there was never R180million that is missing. Now he has actually said, there’s another R30million,so people have began to write about R210million,all that is false I can surely tell you,it is false and in fact it points to the incompetence in that office”,said the Prime Minister when questioned by the Nation Magazine editor Bheki Makhubu during a Breakfast Meeting with editors at the Mountain View on Thursday.

On the hand,Parliament might debate the constitutional crisis triggered by the Prime Minister on Monday and come-up with a resolution and the latest developments come after the Public Accounts Committee(PAC) opted to suspend sittings in protest against the Prime Minister’s statements.
