MBABANE: The appointment of Maphevu Mkhatjwa as the Acting Commissioner of the Anti Corruption Commission(ACC) has expired.
Jabu Phakathi,the Spokesperson of the Anti Corruption Commission(ACC) declined to comment about the matter.
Mkhatjwa who does not qualify to be confirmed as the Commissioner, was appointed on acting basis by Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Prince Simelane on or around 21st December 2023.
“Following the end of term of office for the former Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission,the Deputy Commissioner of Operations, Mr Maphevu M. Mkhatjwa has been appointed to act as Commissioner of Anti-Corruption Commission for a period not exceeding six months”, reads the minute in part.
On another note, Section 5(1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act of 2006 states clearly that; “a person shall not qualify for appointment as Commissioner unless that person qualifies for appointment as a Judge of the High Court”.
