MBABANE:Jane Mkhonta-Simelane,the Mbabane West Member of Parliament(MP) who doubles as the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs says, she will engage the Mbabane Municipality,to consider reducing rates for the poor and elderly Mbabane residents amid public outcry.
The Tourism and Environmental Affairs Minister was speaking this week on the Mbabane Manicipality YouTube Podcast when interviewed by Information and Public Affairs Officer Lucky Tsabedze, she further highlighted that some of the residents were poor but the Municipality demanded rates and went on to grab their properties.
“Those people are poor,if you demand high rates from them what are you actually seeking to achieve?.I would make an example about an elderly who settled in town some years ago while she was still young and affording but now,she is no longer affording and poor.We need to think about the welfare of the people. It’s better because Mbabane East is in town and Mbabane West is in town, we will sit down and speak about this”, said the Tourism Minister.
