MBABANE:China has introduced a Bill that carries a death penalty on anyone promoting it’s province Taiwan as an independent State, the Global Times reported on Saturday morning.
The Bill that might affect eSwatini King and his loyalists who support Taiwan, was jointly issued by the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuratorate, the Ministry of Public and State Security and Justice Ministry, will take effect once it has been signed into law.
The latest developments come amid eSwatini’s diplomatic relations with Taiwan,King Mswati of the tiny Kingdom of eSwatini recently pledged to support and maintain diplomatic relations with Taiwan during the recent inauguration of Taiwan President William Lai Ching-te.
But the Global Times, quoting analysts, further reported that, employing judicial measures to punish the diehard “Taiwan independence separatists represents a significant response by the Mainland to the escalating challenges posed by Taiwan independence”.
As a result, those persisting in advocating for “Taiwan independence” are highly expected to face harsher consequences including the death penalty if found guilty.
It is still unclear if emaSwati next to King who visits and supports Taiwan won’t be grabbed and arrested if they visit the Mainland China for shopping, some high profile emaSwati source goods for their businesses in China.
Reached for comments on Monday evening,Wandile Dludlu, the Deputy President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) said it’s becoming more risky for eSwatini to hold on to the diplomatic relations with Taiwan,he urged the King and the Government to respect the United Nation(UN) Resolution 2758 of 1971 that endorsed the One China Principle.
“It’s continuously becoming unfortunate that the ruling elite in Swaziland continues to defy the overwhelming recognition of the One China Policy”, said the PUDEMO Deputy President who urged the Government to respect the UN Resolution 2758 of 1971 and support the One China Principle.
