MBABANE:Nomalungelo Simelane(LaZwide),the Siphofaneni Member of Parliament(MP) who once called for a political dialogue to resolve the eSwatini political crisis was,on Friday morning,raided by armed police and soldiers as King Mswati’s Tinkhundla undemocratic regime intensifies crackdown on pro-democracy activists.
Under the Tinkhundla system, MPs are tortured, harassed or arrested for expressing a different political view particularly on issues of democracy.
The police and soldiers went on to raid the home of former Senate Deputy President Ngomyayona Gamedze,the Chairperson of Sive Siyinqaba National Movement.
Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati,the Police Spokesperson declined to comment about the harassment and torture of the MP including other political activists who were detained and heavily assaulted.
Eswatini is commemorating the June 29 massacre,dozens of innocent civilians were killed for demanding democracy.
On another note,Mlungisi Makhanya,the President of the People’s United Democratic Movement(PUDEMO) declared 2024 as a year of revolution.
“We are either dead,in jail, unemployed,underpaid,living in abject poverty, in exile or hunted by this murderous regime.So,we must fight with every ounce of energy in our bodies and embrace the reality that every revolution creates its own martyrs and equally so,it also produces its own traitors.We can’t be discouraged by the treacherous actions of the few.This is the year of the REVOLUTION”, said the PUDEMO President.
