Eswatini is ruled by King Mswati as an absolute Monarch, soldiers are normally deployed during protests to shoot and kill those calling for democratic reforms, while human rights defenders are abducted, arrested, tortured or killed.

Political parties are banned in eSwatini and the King holds Executive, Judicial and Legislative powers in that, he appoints the Prime Minister, Judges, Ministers, a majority of Senators and all members of the various Governing Councils.

Citizens are only allowed to elect Members of Parliament(MPs) and those MPs are not expected to criticize the King or hold the Executive or the Monarchy accountable.
