OPINION:Did Parliament approve the purchasing of the R8million Boran Bill for King Mswati?.

Wednesday, 4th September, 2024

In the midst of a health crisis amid shortage of drugs in public hospitals with Government struggling to provide scholarships and pay suppliers, it has been reported that, R8million has been spent to purchase a Boran Bull for King Mswati.

After learning that the story was creating tension, the Tinkhundla regime allegedly ordered the Times of eSwatini to do a damage control, trying to justify that the Boran Bull was purchased with a lesser amount.

But Cabinet cannot purchase the Bull without Parliament approval and therefore, Government must produce a document where Members of Parliament(MPs) approved the purchasing of the Bull and if,it was justified to use public funds to buy an expensive Bull for King Mswati.

In this country, a majority of emaSwati are poor and financially struggling and it’s just a matter of time before they rebel and remove this undemocratic Government.

This extravagant spending that is now even showcased in an International Trade Fair will, one day, cause the last breath for the Tinkhundla undemocratic, cruel and oppressive regime.

A Government is supposed to work towards delivering services and impress the people but Tinkhundla’s mandate is to impress King Mswati.

It’s very unfortunate to note that, a whole Government is working towards impressing one man who was never elected by the people but uses guns to hold on to power.

Businesses owned by emaSwati are struggling and closing down because Government is delaying to pay suppliers but, Cabinet is prioritizing the use of public funds to impress Mswati.

We have the health, low salaries for civil servants and workers in the private sector, education and unemployment crisis.

But now, we facing another emerging crisis,Government is deliberately delaying to pay suppliers and, indigenous companies within the Small and Medium Enterprise(SME) are closing down, this is serious crisis because these companies employed emaSwati.

Therefore, we have a reason to be surprised when R8million is used to purchase a Bull for the King just to make him happy.

Parliament is an arm of Government tasked with approving the use of public funds and therefore, even if Cabinet can instruct the Times to write another story suggesting that, the Bull was not purchased with the R8million but 1cent, the question is; was Parliament aware?.
