MBABANE:King Mswati’s Spokesperson says he is not sure whether the King will approve or not,the ongoing request for Chiefs to be paid monthly salaries.

Responding to this Swaziland News on Sunday morning, when asked to clarify the King’s position on the matter, Simelane said issues of salaries are normally determined or handled by the Ministry of Finance and Public Service after analyzing the amount of work to be done.

Worth-noting, Chiefs are traditional leaders and their welfare “is handled directly” by the King or the institution of the Monarchy not Government.

“Salaries and allowances fall under the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Public Service counterpart, which controls the system's posts. Our experience  is that it is these two Ministries that determine the work to be done and the payment that goes with it.The King does not decide payments. We are not aware of his input towards the fulfillment or denial of the request in question,” said the King’s Spokesperson.
